Wedding rings and things

P1030639I’m taking the slightest of breaks from writing today. Instead, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite pictures ever.

Choo-choo and I were playing with his stickers one day when he decided to Continue reading “Wedding rings and things”

Choo-choo learns something new

abstract_2008012112-1113int.epsYesterday, Choo-choo and I were playing with a rainbow-colored plastic spring. I’m sure you all know what I am talking about. The Slinky that isn’t a Slinky. I showed Choo-choo how to get the spring to “fall” down each stair by itself. We then reenacted this with his play table and some boxes.

It got me thinking. The not-Slinky is such a simple yet Continue reading “Choo-choo learns something new”

Train rides and swirly slides

Family Written In Plastic Kids Letters

Choo-choo, Diesel, and I had a super fun family day yesterday. In celebration of Choo-choo doing better with his potty training, my husband and I took him to another train museum a few hours away from us.

It was all our kid had talked about for the past three days. He asked about going every night and again in the morning. He asked if we were there yet the entire drive despite many assurances we weren’t even close. Choo-choo just could not contain his excitement.

Once there, we Continue reading “Train rides and swirly slides”

More than just paper and ink

Magical books with ray of magical lights and colorful clouds

I am a big believer in reading to children. Diesel and I have always thought how important it is to read to Choo-choo. We take stacks of books with us on vacations and even short rides in the car. We’ve even encouraged our son to “read to us” as well.

Reading to kids not only increases their knowledge, but it Continue reading “More than just paper and ink”

Late night revelation

Asleep Woman Lying on Bed

My bed is calling to me right now. Choo-choo kept me up for two and a half hours in the middle of the night. No matter how many times I rocked him, sang to him, cuddled with him, and gave him hugs and kisses, he just wouldn’t lie in his bed for longer than ten or so minutes without yelling for me again.

I was angry and frustrated about it. I mean, come on. He deprived me of nearly three hours of desperately needed sleep.

Then I started to think. Continue reading “Late night revelation”

Sweet little lies

Have any of you ever lied to your kids? I’m not talking about the type of lying that would hurt them or even lies meant to protect them. I simply mean the little fibs to make life just a bit easier.

Here’s an example: I was making a snack for Choo-choo and asked him what he wanted to eat. He told me he wanted crackers and sunflower seed butter. Well, we are currently out of sunflower seed butter. Since I no longer have Continue reading “Sweet little lies”

Be okay today

Young Woman ShoppingSometimes, I just want to feel like everything is going to be okay, whether I actually know it or not. I want to feel it. I do often need some “me” time in order for this to happen. Today’s “me” time was actually just me taking a quiet minute for myself eating some cookies in the bathroom while my kid screamed at me that he wanted a snack instead of breakfast.

You know, I have heard a lot of different thoughts on a mother taking some time for herself away from her child(ren). To all you parents out there, moms and dads, please know that it is Continue reading “Be okay today”
